Transitioning from ESEA to ESSA

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) reauthorized and updated the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). Subsequently, updates from the California Department of Education state that an LEA or teacher may continue to use the VPSS certification process to demonstrate HQ status in core content classes. Since 2009, Los Angeles County Office of Education (CDOL) has offered Tier I and Tier II VPSS online courses as an option to obtain HQ status in English, Math, Science and Social Studies.

However, after July 20, 2018, LACOE’s VPSS courses and website will be temporarily unavailable while transitioning from ESEA to ESSA. The vision is to launch new VPSS schedules and updated courses for teachers and LEA’s in the 2018-2019 school year when revisions are completed.
